24/25 Community Wildfire Prevention Grant Projects
Two Forest Fuels Reduction projects totaling $689,000 were awarded for Fiscal Year 2024-2025. $559,000 was provided from the Measure T Wildfire Prevention Fund. These projects also brought an additional $130,000 (19% of the Total Costs) in Matching Contributions!
Tundra-TDPUD Partnership Fuels Reduction Project
This project showcases private-public partnership and with the purpose of reducing forest fire fuels and improving forest health on 109 acres north of Old Town Truckee. This is a joint effort by two private property owners and the Truckee Donner Public Utilities District. Each of the property owner provided matching contributions. The project expanded the efficiency of other recent projects and reduced fire risk to many adjacent neighbors and nearby communities including vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure. Funding consisted of $335,036 Measure T & $76,000 Matching Contributions.
Glenshire to Brockway Fuelbreak Extension
This project coordinated fuel reduction activities across multiple private land ownerships in residential areas to protect homes and properties in the Glenshire and Juniper Hill communities. Work included mastication of heavy ground fuels, thinning the forest of small trees, and pruning remaining trees and shrubs on a total of 52 acres. This project extended the previously completed large Glenshire to Brockway fuelbreak which aids in fire protection to the surrounding communities. Funding consisted of $223,700 Measure T & $54,004 in Matching Contributions.
